Hello...what are the popular brands and scales for the resin ship kits? Does someone have an opinion or preference of these compared to the plastic kits?

There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of resin kits on the market. If you want information on specific ships and the kits that are available for them you would be better advised to ask about specific ships and the scale you want to work in. The most popular scale is 1/700. The larger more expensive 1/350 kits are pretty much the standard in larger scale. There are models in scales that range across the spectrum.

Once you decide on a ship and scale you want to work in then go to sites like this one and ask about that ship and scale or go to www.steelnavy.com for their reviews or the reviews on www.modelwarships.com or to www.quuxuum.org/rajens_list/shiprevs.html, a site with hundreds of ship model reviews.
