I assume the book doesn't have plans, this is right?

Thanks, Papillon.

Jake, you're right.  I typed that last post late last night; I must have gotten this book mixed up with another one.  Sorry about that - and due apologies to Mr. Konstam.

One point I did get right:  only one short chapter is actually about the Sovereign of the Seas.  (The table of contents is available on this webpage:   http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Sovereigns-of-the-Sea/Angus-Konstam/e/9780470116678/?itm=5 .)  But the book is indeed a hardback, and has over 300 pages.

I found the book on the Barnes and Noble website, and I have to say my enthusiasm has been dampened slightly.  It's a rather small paperback (about 80 pages), in a format similar to the various Osprey series.  (That's not a criticism.  Osprey publishes some fine books.)  The B&N site includes the table of contents.  Apparently the book is a highly generalized history of early- and mid-seventeenth-century sailing warships; only one chapter (a short one) is devoted to the Sovereign of the Seas herself.

Looks to me like a worthwhile acquisition.  But not the great, definitive, exhaustive study of the ship that I was hoping for.

Mr. Konstam's book goes immediately to the top of my post-payday wish list.

Jake - Stick with Alexander Laing's The Sea Witch.  The first few chapters are liberally dosed with 1940s romanticism, but as soon as the ship gets launched and puts to sea it turns into a grand old sea story.  And the owner's daughter eventually gets her comeuppance - and then some.  I think you'll be glad you read it.

Sovereigns of the Seas Book

For those who are interested a I just discovered a book written by Angus Konstam entitled Sovereigns of the Seas, The Quest to Build the Perfect Renaissance Battleship. it was just released in 2008.  It covers the history and design of the ship, plus the other ships that influenced her design. So far so good on the first chapter.

 - John Tilly - I finally got the copy of the Sea Witch in, I'm in the 4-5 chapter  it's written like a novel but from a historical view, from the owners daughter strange, but good.

Jake
