USS Virginia SSN 774 kits?
Posted by peterj on Sunday, October 26, 2008 4:33 AM
I was fortunate to attend the commissioning yesterday of the USS New Hampshire SSN-778. Now, of course, I'd like to build a model of her. The only kit I've found is the Yankee Modelworks 1/350 kit. Is it a good kit? Are there any other kits in any scale?

Thanks!

I've never built one so I can't help. But to get back to your experience at the commissioning ceremony; were you able to go onboard for a tour? Those boats are amazing on the inside!

Unfortunately there were no tours, at least not for the commissioning crowd.  I assume that other more exaulted people than us had tours during the week she's been in port.

Couldn't you use one of the various Seawolf kits that are available such as the Trumpeter 1/144 one?   The New Hampshire looks very similar to the USS Seawolf.

The Seawolfs (Seawolves?) are 20 feet shorter and six feet wider than the Virginias. The Virginias also have different masts.
