Question about Essex Class Ships
Posted by se5022 on Friday, November 21, 2003 7:23 AM
I'm building a Trumpeter Esses as the Bonnehomme Richard (CV-31). I'n not too obsessed with getting every detail precisely accurate.
I'm about ready to paint the hanger deck. Anyone know what colrs to use on the walls and the hanger deck itself?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This question has come up before. I really thought Jeff Herne would know the answer. I can give you an educated guess, and basis for it.

I served on a modern LPH (in the early '80s that is). Our hanger walls (bulkheads) were Haze Gray, same as outer hull. Deck was Flight Deck Gray, and Ceiling was White. Based on that I plan on doing mine (I'm working on the Essex, and have the other 3 waiting in the wings) in the color of the hull cammo. If doing a complacated scheme use the "base color".

Unless anyone else knows a better answer.

Deck is #20 standard deck gray (same as prewar deck gray) and rest is white.
