1/350 Richelieu
Posted by mstazz62 on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 12:19 PM

Heres Trumpeter's 1/350 scale Richelieu.

This has to be one of my favorite BBs of all time - it's just so cool lookin'! Great lines and main armament in the front similar to HMS Nelson and Rodney.

Havn't yet rigged her - any suggestions on that? Do you guys like stretched (sp?) sprue or fishing line? Please, I need some help. The last time I rigged a ship I used sprue, then used a blown out match to stretch it tight - and watched my hard work curl up like a wet noodle!

Help!!!

Yup, Richelieu is an interesting ship, though I am fonder of the Dunkerque and Strasbourg battlecruisers (I think it has to do with the peculiar smokestack on Richelieu; I like a separate stack better, but that's just a personal preference!).

Very nice work! Just a suggestion on photography: use a neutral background in the future so the background isn't such a distraction...

Manny - Yes, definitly my photography skills need improvement. The Massachusetts and Richelieu were photo'ed just before I gave 'em up to the hobby shop for the Chicago convention - I hope to get 'em back to finish properly. The Lexington was shot just before the addition of the air wing and some minor fixes (the front of the flight deck, et al..)

I did get a backdrop for some of my armor that I photo'ed, and , having just figured out how to post I'm gonna go nuts and try to post as much as I can!

Hope to have more stuff for you guys soon.

Thanks for the comments!

Nicely done....

One more suggestions - for 350 scale you should try and bore out the cannons a bit; some slight weathering of the outer hull would also look great.

Rigging?  - YEARS ago I used stretched sprue, but have not rigged anything since I kept back to the hobby. I have read people using invisible thread.

hope it helps!

PS Whats with all this ARMOR people doing ships now? ;)

mstazz62,

This is O/T but I noticed your Trumpeter 1/35th BR-52 locomotive.  I got this kit about

a month ago to go with my 1/35th Trumpeter K5 Railway Gun.  I'd just like to ask, were there

any major issues in building the kit.

Back on topic:  Boring out a little bit of the gun barrels is indeed a nice touch but, unless

the ship is being represented as in battle or, at general quarters, it would be inaccurate.

The gun muzzles are normally plugged with tompions.  (a cylindrical plug that is bore diameter)

The reason is that the guns rifleing is bare metal and would very quickly rust not to mention

salt water collecting in the gun's chambers as a result of spray while the ship is under way.
