Wow - thanks for kind words. It's really good to have positive feedback from fellow modelers!

Gives me inspiration to keep building. The worst part of the flight deck was masking off the clear portion to dull coat the rest of the ship. I ended up pulling off a good portion of the decals - man did the language fly! I was happy with the end result, though.

I would like to see a build with all of the bulkheads and decks in clear! Let's see someone do that! With all of the engineering spaces, living spaces, workshops, etc.. Then a picture of the builder in his rubber room with his special jacket with the sleeves that connect in the back.

Great job on a difficult to pull-off kit!

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

Marc - thanks for the info... I have the Trump's Nimitz, will be awhile till I build her

mfsob - Great job on an old clunker... im currently attempting to build the old Revell Nimitz.. ugh...

I do agree that the water base is REALLY good for a molded type... at a fraction of the time/skills that would require to make a 'real" water base.

oh when i said that the clear hanger was an 'acquired taste" I meant that you have to know a bit about hangars and carriers to appreciate the diplay : )

The only "negative" I see about that is that you have to now buy TWO carriers to try your hand at both displays!

PS I just checked my Nimitz and low and behold I have the same options!

"This kit includes a bonus clear flight deck option in case you want to show off the detailed hanger deck. A clear hanger deck part is included as well. I'm not sure why as there is nothing below the hanger deck to display. "

I also have the base, did not realize was that nice:

"Not only do you get an option to build the ship full hull or waterline, but you get the option to display it either way also. A full hull base is molded in black to set your ship on. If you wish to display it in the waterline mode, a nice clear base is provided with a nice wave and wake pattern"

I should check more closely the kits I get even if they are 50% off! I feel now like it was an even BETTER deal! Laugh [(-D]

Mark,

I love it!

That is the coolest use of that wierd artsy-fartsy clear flight deck that I can imagine!  By just leaving a small part transparent, you've captured the effect of the fight deck interior without leaving yourself open to nuts like me who will say "I was there, and the outer part of the hangar deck was all workshops that aren't portrayed here... blah, blah, blah"

I was there, and your presentation gives just the feel of the inside of a single hangar bay.  VERY cool.  I'm going to have to build one that way.  I love it!

1/700 isn't so small if you live in a really tiny apartment. Big Smile [:D]

Seriously, though, after my build of the Enterprise in 1/720, and updating the Godawful old Revell kit to reflect her current appearance, I too was about ready for the rubber room. Hand painting and decaling the 40-odd aircraft nearly finished my institutionalization, as you can see from this:

Yours looks very sharp for an out of the box build, and your ocean base is one of the better-looking ones I've seen of the molded kind. I will disagree with some about the clear part of the flight deck - since I was building my kit as a gift for a crewman, I would have definitely gone with that had it been available, since I think it really ramps up the coolness factor.

Manny - Yes it is OOTB. It was built for the Chicago hobby show to highlite the features of the kit, so no after market or scratch built add ons.

Jmart - You get two flight decks in the kit. One clear mold, and one in gray. The water base is included and is molded in a clear light blue vac-form type of plastic. I painted the underside in various blues and white foam on top. The kit is Trumpeters 1/700 USS Eisenhower.

Very nicely done... yo uwant tiny? Try WW2 destroyers in 700 scale :)

That clear hangar strip is an acquired taste I guess; do you have options?

is it true that water base is included? one piece clear plastic?

what kit is this?

cheers!

This is my first 1/700 scale ship model - boy do I have a new found respect for you guys who build in this scale!!! Tiny, tiny, tiny !! But I did have alot of fun on this one. Great kit - good fit lots of detail, clear molded airwing, and a cool sea base.

One of the coolest features was the clear molded flight deck - I puzzled over what to do and decided to mask out the center over the hanger deck and paint the rest accordingly. I then applied decals right over everything - I really like the result. A coat of Future really helped with the clarity of the deck and you can see the hanger deck detail very well.

Oh and Manny, if you are lookin' sorry about the background. Gonna take some better pics one day!

Very nice work in my favorite scale...is that the water-base that came in the kit?  If so, very nice paint job on it.  Not too crazy about those clear decks but you did a nice job on what appears to be an OOB model...
