HMS Victory Painting Question

Thanks very much for the reply and pics.  I now have no question as to how I am going to paint those areas.  I also noticed that the heads themselves are black.

When I paint my Victory I plan to simulate the bleached out areas that are hit by direct sunlight by drybrushing horizontal surfaces just a slighly lighter shade than the black on areas that are not horizontal.  I learned this technique from Shep Paine's figure painting book but will use more subtle shades than I'd use on a figure.

Also, areas that are recessed or where sunlight will be blocked will get an even darker shade than the standard color.

Hello Dave,

The deck is currently natural as in the photo below, I have not seen it painted black.

The gratings forward of this deck are currently painted black, but look at the light effect in the top right hand corner, it looks bleached out, with the sunlight on it.

On this picture which I took in 2006, with full sunlight on it, the grating appears bleached out.

I went with natural deck colour for the half deck, and black for the grating on my Victory build.
