New Work in Progress

After finally completing that Revell Montrose conversion, my workbench was free for an absolutely new project.  And I decided to try one of these resin kits that is supposed to fall together.

I think they "fall together" more easily for someone familiar with resin.  This little ship has taken a few weeks to even get to this stage, and I will still need to scrounge some pe doors and ladders and railings and paint a large area with an unaccustomed color.

Oughta be lots of fun.

What is it? Some kind of oceanographic outfit, I guess.

Yup - it's the Loose Cannon Productions 1/700 USNS Hayes, a ship on a second life as an Acoustic Research ship, whatever that is. http://www.navsource.org/archives/09/49/49195.htm

I feel some kinship to her since she was built here in Seattle, although I don't recall any sort of hype about her back in 1970.
