The USS Houston is/was a fast attack submarine unless you meant the USS Sam Houston which was a missile sub.

The USS Houston (SSN-713) was a Los Angeles-class attack submarine.   It was not a ballistic-missile sub (or SSBN/boomer), although they are capable of launching cruise missiles from the torpedo tubes.

Go to the NAVSOURCE page on the HOUSTON here http://www.navsource.org/archives/08/08713.htm

You can find kits in several scales.   In 1:700 scale there is a nice one by DML/Dragon (resold by Testors).  It may be hard to find.   ARII made some so-so ones as the Boston and New York City.   HobbyBoss makes a LosAngeles SSN as the Greenville.   I'm drawing a blank if it has sail-mounted or hull-mounted fairwater planes.   They were on the sail on the Houston.

In 1:350 scale DML/Dragon makes a nice LosAngeles class as the Hampton.  There are some more high-end resin kits and some operating/display kits in RC scales or larger.

Don't worry about hull numbers.  As you can see from the pictures at NAVSOURCE, and as your Dad will tell you, they didn't show hull numbers when operational for security purposes.  Paint it black & be done with it.
