1/350 Missouri P/E from Eduard

Sorry guys.  I had to put the Missouri on hold.  My wife bought me a CH-46 for Christmas and I've been working on that.  I should be back on the Mo' in about a month.

The Eduard PE set is LARGE.  There are a ton of parts in it.  I've nearly completed laminating the PE for the bulkheads.

I finished reading Sumralls book on the Iowa Class ships (yup, I acutally read it).  I also was able to purchase Stilwell's book on the Missouri.  I got it for...drumroll please... $25.00 new. 

I hope I'll be back on the Mo' soon.  I'll be following these posts though.

How is it compared to the Gold Medal set for the Missouri?

I am following everyone's experiences closely because I am planning my build of the Tamiya 1/350 Missouri as the Iowa using Tom's resin set (OOP).  You each are really providing valuable insight to me.  I like the idea of building a jig for the smaller parts.

How are you doing on Mo so far? As for me I gotta find a better way to construct the Bofors guns.Maybe a jig of some sort? It takes too long to do them one at a time.What do u think?

I did the Tamiya Missouri years back with the basic Gold Medals Basic PE set. It took me almost a year to finish it. The thing is I did not rush with the PE details and I was not working on it everyday. I did the metal parts a part at a time. Like I worked on the SK-2 radar until I'm done with it then move on to another part. Patience is the word with photo etch specially with ship models. The finished built will be worth the time and the effort.

I'm building the USS Missoui this winter. I will be using Eduard and Gold Medal Models PE set for it.

The Ship Modeling book is a big help but the Gold Medal Models book, "Photoetching for the  Plastic Ship Modeler" is also a must have book. It has helped me a lot on my other ship models PE.  By the way, I just got back in the hobby and wanted a Missoui model foever so it will be only my third ship model.

For the bending I bought the Mission Modles Etchmate 3C. It is a BIG help with the complex bends like the catapults and cranes.

It will be after Christmas before I can ever start on it.

Basics of Ship Modeling

The first one is out of print.  It also provides a lot more information than Basics of Ship Modeling.  I bought mine on Ebay.

In regards to 1/700 PE - FORGET IT.  I've tried it.  My patience is too limited for that small of detail.  Same reason I don't do 1/72nd Armor or Aircraft.  I like the bigger stuff.

I've just started actually.  I got the hull mounted and have attached the forward and aft deck sections.  I have also removed the molded on chain.  I'm currently working on the center section.  I've been attaching those laminated sides that have the portholes and hatches on them. 

I've used Eduard sets a lot with my armor models.  Actually, a lot of the pieces in the Missouri kit are bigger than some of their armor sets.  The only thing that worries me is the railing.

Have you done many ships?  I've only completed a 1/350 Arizona using three PE sets from Tom's.  I have done 13 armor kits those.  Many of them have PE and resin add on sets.  The railing on the ship was tough for me.
