Hornet, again

Still working on this and making great progress. I have finished the dazzle on the hull and it looks awesome. The masking was great. If anyone has built this, if you did the complete hull did you do a black waterline mark on both the grey hull and the red lower poortion. Also, did you repaint the red a flat red or leave it the molded red.

Finally, there are a bunch of things that are on the hanger deck, ties and anchor supports I assume, what color are these items? There is no indication in the directions and I find nothing on line in kit reviews that really addresses the painting of these small items. PLEASE HELP!!!

The chocks and bullards would be painted the same color as the cammo in that area. As for the "boot topping" (the black stripe), I would put the center of it at the hull split. But I can't tell you what the proper width would be.

Hi there,

I actually have a question for you. How did you go about painting the camo un the hull. You mentioned masking. Did you use an airbrush or paint brush ?

Start with your litest color and mask and paint progressivly darker. You can brush paint. I airbrush (as do most experenced modelers). What do you want to cammo paint and what scheme?

I'm doing the Fletcher and the Hornet (both 1/350). I want to airbrush as well, as I do most of my work. I'm just having a hard time trying to wrap my mind around the idea of how to mask for the darker camo colours, especially when it's going from one deck to another or around walkways and so on.
