New to forum 1st. model Revell Viking Ship
Posted by Madmartigan on Saturday, December 20, 2008 8:15 AM

Hi everyone!

I've been a lurker in this forum for quite some time. Finally I have registered and thought I would share some pics of a model I just got done.

It's Revell's Viking Ship, quite an excellent model I must say. It's very nice and easy to build. The woodgrain is very good, and makes it easy to get that "wooden" look.

I did a basecoat of tan, and used acrylic colours over that.

The decals for the shields was scrapped, and I replaced the vacuformed sail with a linen sail. The oars I placed in bundels on the deck. I was unsure about the dragonhead and the stern decoration, the real Gokstad ship didn't have them, but I added it anyways.

It's a quick build, and a christmasgift for my father :)

BTW: This is a great forum, looking forward to sharing ideas and builds with you.

Looks very cool, I could only wish for some color paint on those shields.

I like the finish you have achieved, this really is an attractive model to make.

Your father should be well pleased with your gift, a Norse ship, by a Norseman, for a Norseman, excellent stuff.

Very nice. I do have to disagree with Smeagol alittle. I think the shields look great as natural wood. (Takk) for sending in your pictures.

Thanks you guys!

It's my first model in years and it was a good kit to get me going again Smile [:)]

I choose it because I've heard good stuff about the kit, and the ships design really appeals to me.

Don't know if it's because I'm norwegian or not, but you can't deny that the vikings built very seaworthy ships.

Next project is a 1/96 Mayflower waterline model.
