My experience with PEs generally is that when painted, I do not mask them over because it pulls the paint off the surface specially on the corners. Also when they say grind it just means to remove it in whatever manner will give a good result. I sometimes use a no. 11 blade, a dremel with a small grinder  or even sandpaper. It does not have to be super smooth as the PE replacement will cover the surface anyway.

Eduard PE questions
Posted by Wildcat on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 5:26 PM

I'm building a couple 1/350 scale ships with the Eduard PS sets and have a some questions.

On the Eduard instructions it shows to "grind" off some doors. How do I go about that? I thought using the knife but I think that would remove too much.

Also some of the doors can be build as open or closed. To make a open door means I will have to cut the entire door open with say a dremel tool then place the "open" door on the side of the hole, right?

I plan to paint them in Measure either 21 or 22, the dicks will be painted two colors so I plan to super glue the Eduard doors on then paint the superstucture gray. Can I use Tamiya Tape over the Eduard parts like the doors along with the rest of the superstucture before I paint the decks. I'm just worried the tape might pull off the PE parts. I don't plan to put the rails and radars, ladders and stuff like that until after the ship is painted so those will not be on the ships until later.

I hope you understand what I'm trying to ask.
