Sovereign of the Seas 1660
Posted by CaptainBill03 on Wednesday, December 24, 2008 11:51 AM

Good morning

I have a Sovereign of the Seas kit: I know she was rebuilt several times and I'd like to build to the Dutch Wars

I did a Good Image Search with "Sovereign of the Seas 1660"

It took me to www.prints-online.com/image/Sovereign of the Seas  where there is a fairly good print of a ship definately different from the common 1637 pictures.

Does anyone know of more pictures or drawings of this ship for the 1660 to 1690 period?

Thanks

Your best bet is to examine the drawings of the Van De Velde's, which may be online somewhere.  They are also available in several books, but all of these books are very expensive (if you can find them!).  Two for the books are by Frank Fox (Great Ships of Charles II, and 'A Distant Storm').  The third is about the Anglo-Dutch Naval Wars by Hainsworth.  you might also be able to get these through your local library (but you will have to ask at the desk to order them in from another library so you can check them out).

Thanks, I did find a few of Van De Velde's sketches, however they're rough and don't have great detail.

I've  also see the http://www.thesovereignoftheseas.com/ site but it doesn't have any pictures beyond the 1837 one.

I'm not is a great hurry so I'll keep looking.

in 1660 the ships named changed from the Sovereign of the Seas to the Royal Sovereign. that might help in your search a little.
