Dockyard scenario - Am I cramming too much into it?
Posted by mfsob on Saturday, January 10, 2009 3:08 PM

I am still whacking away on my AKA Haskell-class transport build in 1/700, partly due to a new job and hideous hours, and partly because I've gotten distracted by the dockyard scene I'm going to place it in when it's finally done. I'm (kind of) wondering if I'm cramming too much into this little 9x4" space, designed to look like a typical San Franscisco harbor scene in early 1945:

  • An 8x1.5-inch section of dock, on which I've put some cut down sections of various buildings (all from Loose Cannon Productions);
  • At the short end of the dock, a 110-foot subchaser;
  • Tied to one long end of the dock, 2 LCTs;
  • Tied to the middle of the dock, the AKA;
  • Tied to the other end of the dock, a target barge and a few LCVPs;
  • Cutting across one outside corner will be a brightly-colored fishing trawler.

I wanted to add the trawler for a little color, and the target barge for the same reason. Does this seem like a reasonable amount of "stuff" for a tiny slice of a busy port? Suggestions welcome!

P.S. - Anyone have a clue what colors the cloth on the target barge would be painted? From photos I'm guessing 2 wide vertical white stripes and a darker color. Thanks.
