Question
Posted by vette1 on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 12:22 PM

Hello everybody.

I have built models in the past, but never a ship or a boat. My first attempt is the PT-109 torpedo boat. The kit is plastic and is molded in green. The instructions show what the different colors are for the fittings, gun barrels etc, but not the hull. My question is what should the color be for the hull? Grey? Also the deck was it steel, or wooded plank?

Thank you.

Scott

The whole boat, hull & deck was made of wood.   The deck was covered with an  impregnated canvas-like material in hih traffic areas

As delivered, the PT-109 was painted with a gray hull & superstructure,  20B Deck Blue Deck, and Copperoid (Hull Red) on the hull below the chine.

Operaionally & as lost,  the PT-109 was painted overall in a South Pacific PT Boat green (hull & superstructure).   The lower hull remained the Copperoid.

The most accurate choice for these colors are in the Colourcoat line of paints from White Ensign Models.
