first ship model-wip

hey all,

started on the hull this past weekend.

i added a little weathering to the deck planking to give it a little depth.

not sure if it looks ok or not

so far,this has been a nice change of pace.

got a little more work done the last couple of days.

i opened up the windows and port holes on the bridge.

and also started opening up the barrels on the cannons.

It looks like it is coming along real nice,is that the new 1/350 Yukikaze,I can't tell from the box? Nice detailing job on those barrels.I think though that IJN Deck Linoleum is more of a red brown instead of yellow brown.I think tamiya actually makes a linoleum color for IJN warships,if you can't find it WEM has a good match,but it should be more reddish brown.

But keep up the good work and share your progress.

this is old school kit from 20+ years ago that was reissued a while ago

but i think it is now discontinued again.

i would like to pick up the new kit though,it has a lot more detail and a heavier

price tag.

Looking good Jason!  I have come to love Tamiya and Hasegawa ship models. I too was mostly a propellor head, but since getting back into modelling in general jumped into armor and ships as well right away.  The first ship I started on was a Midship Models Mahan destroyer, but it is of such a poor fit and finish, and parts so fragile (I had two masts broken right out of the box!!!) that it is currently in limbo.  I have since moved on to a Hasegawa USS Alabama and the difference is night and day!  The Hase kit is of a beautiful design and finish I am in love.  I also have a 1/700 Tamiya Fletcher class destroyer in the stash and just picked up the Tamiya 1/700 USS Hornet (with the B-25's on it) today....both kits also are of beautiful fit and finish!

Good luck with the rest of your build and I can't wait to see her done!

i have picked up the hasegawa 1/450 akagi along with the gold medal models photo etch set.

also i have the 1/350 tamiya muashi kit also.but i wont be starting on these for a while,

i am also a bassist for an irish rock band so my time is pretty thin.

i guess you could say i jumped in with both feet.
