Heller Sailing Ship Kits
Posted by warshipguy on Sunday, January 25, 2009 2:57 PM

We all know of the large number of sailing ship kits by Heller.  Some are worthy of consideration as historical ships and others fall into the realm of fantasy.  Le Royal Louis, Le Glorieux, Le Superbe, Le Saint Louis, and HMS Victory are the ones I know about which represent real ships.  There is debate on Le Soleil Royal.  I know that La Stella and Le Sirene are considered to be fantasy ships.

What about the rest?  I believe these include Le Phenix, Le Gladiateur, and Gallion.  I think it would be worthwhile to catalog them.

Also, Heller released a 1/144 scale Wasa.  Is this just a re-release of the Airfix kit?

The Vasa is a re-release of the Airfix kit.  Le Gladiateur is a fantasy ship, Gallion is really better described as a gallease, and Le Phenix, while a pretty good kit from all reports, does not represent an actual ship.......

Eric,

That is much what I thought.  Thanks!
