1/700 scale carrier equipment help...
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, January 26, 2009 9:40 AM
I've got a carrier project going---the Dragon CVL 1/700th scale USS Independence---and was wondering where I could find 1/700th scale deck equipment, such as a/c tugs, etc...don't mind scratching them if I could also find good refs on what would be on the flight deck other than a/c and crew...any help on what would be on the deck and where I could get (or make) 'em???

Manny, here is a link to Naval Aviation News: http://www.history.navy.mil/branches/nhcorg5.htm

There is some good reading in the back issues (especially the WWII era editions) and a lot of flight deck photos can be found here. I can't help you on sources of 1/700 deck gear but these back issues can show you what that gear would look like in almost any era of US naval aviation.

The "Tokyo Talks" columns are very good reading. A little propaganda from the other side.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

PitRoad/Skywave "Vehicles on Beachead" set includes Jeeps, weapon carriers, deuce & half, and Shermans as well as LCVPs.    Use the Jeep as a tow tractor.

The old PitRoad Bogue (later molded by Tamiya) has a truck-mounted crane (not a Tilly-type)

Thanks, guys---here's an example of some of the tugs I am speaking of on the same model I am doing (shouldn't they be yellow?):
