Again the Big Mo

I have the Eduard set.  It has a TON of pieces.  The pieces I've used so far fit perfectly.  One really nice thing about the Eduard set is that it details the bulkheads by laminating PE over them.  The Tamiya's kit is void of any detail on the bulkheads.  Have you looked at the pictures of a builtup Missouri on Eduard's site?

Yes I did and I was so impressed by the amount of details it added to the model. The only sore point is that when you cut off the molded-on ladders it leaves a very ugly surface on the model. Are there important details that GMM has that Eduard does'nt have? I'm asking these questions because the PE's are not cheap and I want to get the best for my money. Do I have to buy both?

I can't really compare the GMM PE set with the Eduard set because I haven't seen the GMM set up close.  All I can say is the Eduard set is about 5 frets of PE.  Some years ago, I did the 1/350 Arizona using Tom's Modelworks PE sets.  Eduard came out with a set for the Arizona about two years ago.  Eduard's set had a lot more than Tom's did.  I've also used Eduard sets for my armor builds.  Their sets seem to be very inclusive.  Have you seen this site with their review of GMM's Missouri set:

Don't let the pictures on the Eduard site fool you.  Apparently, the modelers for Eduard just quickly put the PE on the models for display purposes.  You're right about the holes in the deck from the ladders.  They have to filled in.  Here's a picture of my work:

You'll notice the white styrene that was used to fill the void.  It's time consuming and slow going but I think it's worth it.

Thank you for your reply Jesse. I am sure that Eduard did a good job on the PEs because I have very good experiences with them whether it be airplanes or armor. This my first try at their ship selection so I just wanted to be really sure. Looking at their photos, the side detail seem a bit thick. Is it? But it's nice to have those details there. 

I think the side detail looks fine to me, but I'm clearly no expert in ship models.  This one is only my second.  I usually do armor.
