What is it?

I was looking at some photos from the Nurnmber show and in the Tamiya section I noticed in the background of one of the photos a set of Degaussing Cable. What is it actually?

Degausing cables were used to "demagnatise" the hull to help against magnetic mines etc.

Ships are still degaussed to reduce their magnetic signatures.

Degaussing makes the ship "invisible" to magnetic exploders in mines and torpedoes; and is probably the basis for the legend of the "Philadelphia Experiment".
