new guy here, dont know if this will reach anyone but i have been reading about this model [schnellboot]. i got one and it is huge, same packaging as many of you have seen, not anything that cant be overcome. been modeling [for fun] since 1957 with a couple of breaks in between. the broken hull parts over the torpedo exits is the most talkled about, i also had a pretty bent up photoetch fret but was able to fix the problem. i used light aircraft gray for the "schnellbootweiss" color, the hull bottom is flat dark red, and the other colors of gray are dark gull gray and medium dark gull gray. these are all spray can paints from testors. i made my own depth charges that look like WWII mk 7s, i know they are not to scale but they look good to me. all my models are weathered [just completed a "gato class sub and she looks real battle weary] this is my first shot at this forum and i dont know if i will ever be able to get back to as i am new to computing and i must tell you i stumble on everything.hope i get better thanks for listening phil/ontosusmc

Great looking Gato and S boat builds. You did an outstanding job on both. The only thing keeping me from building the 1/72 Gato and 1/35 S boat is the huge display space that they take up. Welcome to the forum. Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

Two very impressive builds ! The Gato looks great and the S-boat looks as if you really enjoyed building it. You have added what must be the most expensive varnished wood duckboards ever to have been seen on a warship Wink [;)] Like the jerrycan rack as well. Nice going Thumbs Up [tup]

cheers,

Julian

Hey Jester, Mannie's right: where did your build go?

Sorry fellas, some real life 1 to 1 modelling has gotten in the way now that the weather has warmed up a bit. Between clearing a half acre lot, adding a bathroom, laying laminate, carpet, and staining an entire set of kitchen cabinets, the sboat has been put on the backburner for a bit. But she stares at me daily and keeps me motivated to get all this real life stuff done so I can get back to her!!

Nice build, both S-100 and Gato. You'll need an Elco'80 1:35 to complement the S-100, and a typeVIIC 1:72 to complement the Gato. ;-) I hope Revell will release I-400 1:72 too!

Hey ontosusmc  don,t feel bad .I come to the forum a lot ,to see what,s up and get practice on the computer . There still are things I cant figure out how to do so just hang in there . Ive got the older SCHNELLBOOT , I think it was AIRFIX . I now buy more than one of certain types for possible conversions . When I spot one at a flea market ,even if it,s started I buy it for the parts . The ITALERI boat is good ,but , I think they could,ve done better in suggesting paints .     tankerbuilder

That is one fine looking boat by the way . The only thing I changed on both of mine was the grating on the decks . I used the grating that,s found in model railroad shops and I found that " N " scale looks really good . The guns are large enough that you can replace the barrels with brass or aliminum tubing . The rails can be replaced with brass wire and that ensures their continued longivity. I would also trade the plastic shafts in on brass rod too .If you get a chance get the older boat and you will see something that is prevalent in gERMAN design and engineering . It,s called ,Logical progression of design . The GERMANS and the ENGLISH are pretty good at that ,Or should I say were ? I won,t go onto it but I,ve come up with at least 10 different designs on these boats . Have a good time on any build because your work looks pretty darn good to me .      tankerbuilder
