1/35 th s-boot brass rail covers
Posted by keef666 on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 3:30 AM

hi chaps, just thought i would post these pics of the new rail covers from cammett ltd, they cost £25.00 sheet, one sheet does one boat,

they are 4 thou brass, and you need to put them on as you build the rails, unlike me who's already built the boat, so will keep them for the s-38 type when thats available later this year,

robin also has brass rail stanchions coming out soon, and i asked him any chance of brass propellers, so he's looking in to that, keith

Did mine in metal foil Keith, a lot cheaper too.

Cheers,

Julian

I think I'd do mine out of glue-soaked tissue paper.  Those canvas dodgers look like they're cut from metal.

I was going to do mine like i did on my 1/40 th scale s-16, there i used a new cotton hankie which i gave a coat of johnson clear and when it was dry cut with a sharpe blade, paint with same shade of paint as the rest of boat, and bobs your uncle, it all depends what you are doing with the boat, paper, foil etc o.k for static, but for r/c you need something bit more harder wearing, but thats us modellers gets the old grey matter working, on whats available and what we can make ourselves,  the other point is when you fit the covers, how much of the kit detail gets blocked, because all you see is canvas, till you look down on the model, what do you lot  think! keith

You block out a lot of detail by fitting the dodgers. I am still not sure if I will fit them all the way to the stern or not.

Keef666,

I agree with your point about the dodgers-you block out a lot of detail. It's for this reason I left them off my Airfix E-boat, and I'm going to leave them off my ROG S-100. I have seen some images where it looks like some were drapped or thrown somewhat haphazardly over the rails in spots. Also some images show only one or two forward sections covered, perhaps to keep spray off the spare torpedos. You wouldn't have to cover the entire rail runs to be accurate if you followed that practice.
