I'm obviously not a hundred percent sure, but I'd be willing to bet they're reissues of the grand old Imai kits.  The Cutty Sark has already appeared under the Aoshima label at least once; I think the Susquehanna has too, but I'm not sure.

If they are in fact old Imai kits they are (unless Aoshima has messed them up somehow) excellent products.  I've said for years that the Imai Cutty Sark is the best rendition of that beautiful ship in kit form - plastic, wood or otherwise.  (Caveat:  I haven't seen the new Academy version - but I think that one may also be a reissue of the Imai one.)

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

Aoshima Releases for May '09 - Sailing ships

Hi All,

I just saw over at the Modelshipwrights site (www.modelshipwrights.com) that Aoshima has the following planned for "late May 2009" release:

Cutty Sark, 1/120 (12,000 yen or about $120)

USS Susquehanna, 1/120 (same price as above)

The notice says "new releases", but I don't know if these are "new" re-releases.  Perhaps someone else can add more.

Cheers, Rick
