P.&O. Lines ORIANNA and CANBERRA
Posted by tankerbuilder on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 3:20 PM
You know that we don,t have enough liners to build . Well ,I thought I would get the one in SQUADRON,S catalogue some months back . To my dismay it was NOT the REVELL version . I do believe that the REVELL version was much better than what I now have . I think it is 1/200 scale ,but boy what a letdown . The hull at critical spots is at least a 1/16 ' thick especially in the afterdeck area . The ship has potential ,but , it,s going to take a lot of work . The sad fact is REVELL had some kickbutt neat liners for quite a while . The MOORE-MCCORMACK "BRAZILIA ' And others of interest . I have always wondered why the mfgr,s didn,t make models of the STOCKHOLM and ANDREA DORIA , talk about history makers ! Oh , they don,t make any of these in paper either . The other model I,d like to see is the NORMANDIE in say 1/350 or 1/250 scale.  Now theres a liner that has been ignored by everybody !! . The liner I bought was ,by the way , was the ORIANNA.. Just to give you an idea , my BRAZILIA fell off the shelf . My SAVANNAH had been torpedoed by my little bro . SAVANNAH bow ,MEET BRAZILIA hull (and it worked with no filler or patches !!!  tankerbuilder

The Revell Brasil and Argentina appear quite regularly on eBay and sell for anywhere between $35-70 these days. They used to sell for as much as $125. The kits are identical and represent the ships after their first minor upgrades. The Revell Oriana kit also appears quite regularly on eBay and sells for similar prices. The scale was somewhere in the 1/500 range. The Brasil and Argentina kits are in the 1/420 range or there abouts. The Canberra, an Airfix kit is another regular on eBay and sells for less. It is a 1/600 scale kit. When searching for the Revell kits on eBay be sure to spell Brasil with an s and also with a z as it appears both ways in auction titles. The kit boxes used the s spelling. Hello,

just to let you know that the Orianna - kit was reissued by
Revell of Germany in 2006 as part of a series of 10 kits
which had been reissued in original boxart to commemorate
Revell of Germany´s 50th anniversary.

Maybe Revell-Mongram imported these to the United States too.

Modellers greetings from Germany,

Axel Wolters

HI ALEX --- If they did do them I for one haven,t seen them either in their catalogue or in hobby shops anywhere . That is not unusual in coastal states in the good ole U.S.A. . I have yet to figure out why . Thanks for the heads up as I do have a contact in GERMANY .  tankerbuilder

Hi Tankerbuilder,

lucky to hear this. In Germany some of the mail-order shops still have
Orianna kits. They were not listed in the regulary catalog, but there was a
4 page extra folder available in summer of 2006 announcing the 10 kits for
Revell of Germany´s 50th anniversary. These kits were produced in a limited
quantity of some thousand pieces, I have heard 5.000 or 7.500 or so.
The Orianna was the only ship kit, only a motorboat was reissued also (Chris Craft?).
Others were the 59 Ford Skyliner retractable in 1:25 scale, the 105 mm howitzer
in 1:40 scale, a Boeing SST in 1:144 scale and some other box-scale aircraft kits.

Maybe your friend can get the Orianna cheap for you, the should be available
for around 10 Euros, thats approx. 13 Bucks.

Good luck,

Axel
