Jay - there are a dozen different approaches.

Mine is to build up most of the ship (Any parts that cover up some deck, like turrets or such, glue them on initially with white glue like Elmers), airbrush the sides color, then take off the parts that were glued temporarily, then paint the decks by hand, then go back and glue the other parts down permanently.

There are a dozen different approaches.

Jay,

It would help to know what type of ship kit you bought.

Rick's advice is sound, but if you're planning a complex WW2 measure camo scheme, things can get interesting in 1/700th scale.

I've got 4,Greman destoryer Z-37/Z-39 double kit, Gneisenau batllecruiser, IJN Tone heavy cruiser, and a IJN airplane tender. I've started the destoryers as practice builds. I also have 56 other kits in the cellar.
