Found cheap lcvps!!! 1/32 scale
Posted by capnluki on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 8:20 PM

I think all of us have drooled over one or another 1/35 LCM or LCVP before.  Now, here's the question that has been worn out:  anybody know where to get either for less than my first born?  If not, anybody with advice on scratch building one?  I would think I could do it with some styrene sheets and a lot of time.  Oh, if I do manage to scratch build a decent one, free LCMs or LCVPs for all who help me!

 Nevermind.  Found one for $25.58 1/32 http://www.brookhursthobbies.com/Product-Listing.cfm?C=&D=&R=1&Search=%20lcvp&N=10&S=&M=&Cat=

Until the Italeri 1/35th LCVP came out, the only game in town (at a reasonable price) was the old Lindberg 1/32 LCVP.  It has been reboxed multiple times and should be available cheap on E-Bay or at the next show that you go to. The kit is very crude compared to the state of the newer state of the art kit, but I have seen some nice built ups at shows.  I even have one that I was planning out the detailing and modifications, but then went to the Squadron Open House and got a great buy on the new Italeri kit.  Think that I picked up my Lindberg kit at a show for less than $10.

This is in fact a Lindberg kit.  Being able to buy online removes the leg work.  Also, I intend to reproduce the model in resin.  Having two landing craft makes the diorama depth endless.

The Lindberg kit compares very well well for dimensions to the Italeri kit, but is considerably older, has a rope bumper round the rubbing edge & is motorised, (battery box in cargo well)
Bin the figures & weapons, or maybe r/c it?

Jon-a-its ,Now thats unusual . Well ,I have r.c,d the lindberg lcvp and was asked to get it off the lake ! The attitude toward small r.c. models changed after I helped an out of steam , steam model make it to shore by playing push boat. I was small enough to come alongside just above his bootstripe ! No Damage !! Small vessels thereafter were allowed on SPRECKELS LAKE at the GOLDEN GATE MODEL YACHT CLUB MEETS . We would run at a place that was out of the way of the big boys but made to feel very welcome !!! I then started running H.O. scale and above and had a blast . The LINDBERG lcvp is a great little boat and scratching one should be easier than scratching a lcm 6 or 8! I have a prototype for the lcm 6 though . The little lcvp can be detailed out to unbelievable heights , give them a try .-----TANKERBUILDER------P.S. The boats built by HIGGINS did have a rope bumper at the gunnel . The boats built by STEPHENS and CHRIS-CRAFT did not for the most part .I Believe even G.M. and FORD even built some ! I could be wrong ,but I don,t think so. P.P.S.--- I did burn out the motor but it was just alittle mabuchi can motor anyway. The boat still runs today !!

He-he, I had considered r/c'ing the Lindy, but didn't have the r/c kit, so let it go.
.
I didn't know the LCVP's had different mfr's but the Lindy wouldn't look out of place next to the Italeri...
.
I have the Fonderie Minitures LCA, which.... is a challenge.... Whistling [:-^]
.
I also have Italeri's LCM3, would look forward to seeing you do a LCM6!

I've built both the Lindberg and Italeri kits.  The Italeri kit on its own merit stands heads and shoulders above the Lindberg kit.  The Lindberg kit as pointed out has a strange rope thing around the rim which I've never seen on any LCVP.  If you can spare the change go with the Italeri kit.

I converted the Lindberg kit to RC back in the late 80s.  I used a disassembled servo for the motor/speed control, and fit the batteries under the deck.  The only place for the bulky receiver was in the back of a 3/4 ton Dodge Weapons Carrier, hidden under a tarp.

With modern radio gear, it would be much easier to RC the boat and leave the cargo bay empty.

One thing-- the stern of the Lindberg boat doesn't match the drawings in the USNI Book Allied Landing Craft of WW2.  That book shows the LCVP with slightly curved transom, while both the Lindberg and Italeri kits have the transom in a shallow V shape.   I had always assumed the Lindberg kit was wrong,  but now that the Italeri kit is out and has the same shape,  I'm not sure what to think......

Aw :

I am not missed ? Hi , Well I am still around and I will tell all .The Lindberg L.C.V.P. I R.C.d had a little pile of cargo in the well deck ( it's in the kit ) .That's where the reciever went .

The battery which was for an A.C. , laid flat under the cargo deck with the re-charge connection sticking up in a gun tub .The servo was in the aft deck and connected directly to the rudder shaft .

She floated a wee bit deeper than stock , but NEVER took on water . Everyone thought it looked neat , till I stripped the gear out and put it all in the I.C.M. Sub-Chaser ! Now that was a winner !    T.B.

This message is for Rcboater and all others who might be interested although it may be six years late. According to the book he references, Allied Landing Craft of World War Two, there were two boats the LCV and the LCVP. The LCV had the slightly rounded stern, the LCVP (which supeseded the LCV) has the shallow V shape to the stern. Therefore it would appear that the Italeri's model is correct. Hope this clarifies the confusion.
