Now that I have secured a landing craft, does anybody know the shade of grey used?

Landing craft were painted to conform to the camouflage at the davit position of their mother ship.    Yes, if the mother was dazzled, the landing craft had a dazzle patch.  During WWII they also did not have their bottoms painted with antifouling paint (red or black).  They got that later.

Colors may be 5H Haze Gray, 5O Ocean Gray, 5N Navy Blue, Dull Black,  5L Light Gray.  Also the Amphib Greens and Browns were used on LCVPs assigned to the Fast Attack Transports.

The most accurate out of the bottle paints are the Colourcoat line of enamels from White Ensign Models.   They have all US Navy colors.  Google White Ensign Models for the address.

In acrylics, the most accurate paints are the now discontinued ModelMaster Marine line of paints.   They were discontinued several years ago, but Testors is reported to have a limited supply available direct.

PollyScale makes a set of acrylic WWII Naval colors which are sort'a correct.  Available wherever PollyScale is sold

Lindberg is reportedly coming out with a set of paints.  Havn't seen them or heard how they are.

If you intend to mix your own,  purchase a set of color chips from Snyder & Short at shipcamouflage.com and mix your own to that standard.

Oh, and before you ask.  There is no FED-STD designation for the Navy's WWII paints.   The FED-STD was a product of the 1950s.   The wartime colors were based on the 1929 Munsell color reference system.   Most of the purple/blue colors were declared obsolete shortly before the end of the war, with orders to paint into neutral grays as the paint & yard availability allowed.   The "obsolete" paints failed to make the cut into the post-war color reference system.   Any opinions as to color matches with the FED-STD are just that -- opinions.
