pibber colors questions - help please!!!
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, December 14, 2003 6:26 PM
okay, for the 3rd time (the first 2 times were when i was approx 16... 12 yrs ago) i am building tamia's pibber. fun fun fun..i have a question about colors. now, on the box and in several photos from the net, it looks like olive drab, by testors, the box is tellin me xf-58 olive green, by tamia, which is a different color altogether. im lost, i remember i did one of my first 2 with olive drab, and the other with a dark green, little brothers leave behind little evidence of these 2 first projects, so i have nothing to look back on. so, can someone help me out on this?? i jus wanna know what colors were used on these boats, i know sometimes there are varriations of these things, for different reasons, so i decided to ask... also the bottom of the boat as well, i know it can be the redish color, or balck, any others..
thanks alot..

p.s. i never knew it would be so difficult to get back into this after 10 or so years..hehehe.

Testors Modelmaster has a 'fadded' OD Huey color that should look right for that Pibber!

Good luck!

Straighten up and fly right.....

Olive drab paint changed (obviously) from WW2 to Vietnam...in WW2 the colors changed twice, but by Vietnam the color had been standardized as FS# 34102.

In WW2, it was 34087 by the time the ANA standards were adopted.

This color is more of a green than the WW2 OD, in fact, it's identical to the US Pre-war color of Forest Green...

Hope that helps.

thx guys..im lokin at pics on the net, the nbox etc..im trying to match by eye the colors, i have testors field drab, and that looks realy close to the color i have been seeing... in your oppinions, would it really make all that much of a difference as far as acurracy if i used this color??...i remember seeing pictures of these boats years back, and they were more of a dark green, which is how i did my 2nd one... sorry for the mass of questions, i just want to be sure... also, jeff, the fs # u gave me is testors medium green, it looks reeeal green...would you happen to have any pics or refences from where you got that color..??

thx again guys for the help..
