Source of 1/540 scale "modern" jet aircraft?
Posted by Yatch on Thursday, July 30, 2009 3:48 PM

I'm considering whether to build up the USS Hornet CVS-12 as she would have looked in '69, or as she looks today.

If I decide to go with her current "museum" configuration, I'd like to add the aircraft that are aboard today.  Obviously, she never launched an F-14, but there's one onboard.

I've tried searching for 1/540 scale aircraft, but no luck in finding an F-4, F-14 and a few others that escape my mind at the moment.  Does anyone know of an outfit that provides this scale aircraft (and decals)?

Thanks!

What scale are the Revell Saratoga and Indpendence kits? I think they are close. The later issues have an 80s type airwing.

Yeah, great tip.  I emailed Revell directly to see if I could just purchase the aircraft separately, and they referred me to Revell Germany (since they still currently make the kit).

I don't know why I hadn't thought of that before, but thanks for the suggestion.  I hope I can get just the planes.

Well, Revell was no help at all - so I guess I'll be buying a full kit.

Funny - Revell USA said, "Sorry, it's a German kit.  Contact them, and tell them we told you to contact them."  So I did.  Then, a week goes by, and I get an email from the same lady at Revell USA saying, "Sorry, we don't have those parts - it's a German kit" and below this email was my original email to Revell Germany.  *sigh*

So I point out that she asked me specifically to email them, and she replies, "Well, we don't stock those parts, and Revell Germany forwarded your request to us since you're a US resident."  Banged Head [banghead]

Hmmm.  I don't even want to go pointing out all the basic problems with this exchange to her, so I guess I'm buying the whole kit.  However, I do know some folks who live in Germany....
