Tamiya's IJN I-400 Build with Pics
Posted by rodc on Monday, August 3, 2009 6:36 PM
Pictures below are from my recent build of Tamiya's 1/350 I-400 "supersub".  Excellent kit to work with.  Part fit was incredible, instructions were straightforward and a very interesting subject.  Model was built OOTB and finished with a combination of Model Master enamels and Tamiya acrylics.  I have included pics of the extra Seiran float plane that is displayed separate from the kit.

Entire kit was overcoated with Future and is a little shiny in the pics.  I plan to give it a coat of dullcote to soften the glare.

This was my first time working with photoetch and although I could have screamed at times, it was well worth the misery since it definately adds to the overall quality of the finished product.  I did not bother with any weathering and may do a little before dull coating.

Comments appreciated!

Hey I have been waiting to see one of these built up! Nice job!  Those Seran Float fighters are cool as is the history.  Actually in route to bomb the Panama canal at wars end what a mission.

Looks nice.

I recently picked up the Deluxe version with transparent top, PE, crew, even has brass torpedos.

Very nice build there. Would you consider a wash to accentuate shadows and detail?

Nice build overall. Could have been nicer if you added aftermarket PE upgrade set. These days, even I-400 1:700 employs such set. I have this Tamiya kit in stock and Eduard's PE for it.

Very nice job, doesn't Tamiya make great stuff ? I built this one last year and enjoyed it a lot.Yours looks like a real clean build,I would agree with the wash, but it certainly doesn't need to be weathered.thanks for posting.
