Revell Arizona
Posted by olshooter on Thursday, August 13, 2009 2:01 PM
Hello! After 20 or so years it's time to build a ship again. Probably from nostalgia effects, I dragged out a Revell 1/426 Arizona from the stockpile and just got started. I'm 58 now and this is probably the 4th or 5th one of these I've done, but those were all pre-photoetch etc, back in the 50's & 60's. Any suggestions? I have the GMM set and so far have removed the molded on handrails etc. TIA, Jerry

First, welcome to the forum.

I'm 56 and am also enjoying re-building some of the classic kits I first built back in the 60's.

The Revell Arizona was always one of my favorites.

For me the biggest challenge with photo-etch pieces is making all the bends.  Getting the bends on the foredeck hand rails was a challenge for me.

For some of the mast platforms I would suggest scratch-building some replacements rather than cutting the handrails off the kit pieces and adding photo-etch rails back to them.

Other than that, just be patient and take your time.

Good luck,

Mark

You might want to consider getting a photo-etch bending tool (I am). Seems like there is a variety of them in size and price.

Here's one set of examples from 'The Small Shop'.
