model companies ,history and why I changed
Posted by tankerbuilder on Thursday, August 27, 2009 4:44 PM
Hello everyone . ---I suppose you wonder why I am so acidic about some domestic and some foreign mfgr,s as well . The truth is that I get irritated because I see higher prices , poor products and darned little if any customer service , or response to customer complaints . I firmly believe in the following in business . Putting out a well made ,desirable product , being responsive to the customer base and making sure I made the best for the money charged. This , in the hobby world is getting non existant !!I will give you an example ( I bought a model from a well known co . ) it had a couple of badly made and mismolded parts. (we all understand this can happen ). I called their customer service dept. I was told that because the molding was now done overseas they could not help me , take the model to a store that carries their product (whether I bought it there or not) Tell them I got a bad one and get them to exchange it!!!!THAT IS NOT CUSTOMER SERVICE !!!! The part that made me irate is I paid over $30.00 each for the kits . They were no different than they were twenty five years ago !!! I now ask to open the kit or ,if by mail order , I ask if anyone has complained about the kit I want. The firms I deal with so far have not lied to me . That is why I am disillussioned with our SO CALLED fine model companies .     tankerbuilder

Ran into a similar situation with a recently reissued Saturn V model from a well known American company (let's call them Llever). This kit has been production as recently as 1996, so you think they wouldn't mess up something as trivial as, say, decals. Incredibly, they did; the UNITED STATES and USA on the side of the Saturn V are supposed to be red. They were printed in black. Contacting Llever was fruitless; they pretty much said "sorry, not much we can do here, try after market."

There are still a couple of models I want to get from this company, but that was just poor. Fortunately, they are associated with another company (Llever du Allemagne) who are a wholly altogether different experience.

bbrowniii----- Now why would you think that ?? I am sorry to dump on ya,ll as I do but there,s no one here at the town where I live to vent to !! Non -modelers do not understand our frustrations at all ! I can remember a time when we in the U.S. of A. were blessed with some of the best and most unusual (In some cases ) models in the whole wide world. I figured many years ago , boy ,wait till REVELL , MONOGRAM , A.M.T. and M.P.C. get wind of this foreign stuff .I bet they will top it with even more varied and well done products . I am glad I wasn,t called on that bet . I will admit that where REVELL is concerned ,there are some of their products I think are great (the problem, no consistancy in the line ) and there are some I would use only for spare parts . Now ,before you get upset the foreign firms are guilty here too(just not as often for what we want ) . The market is volatile and some have come out and are about to introduce stuff that makes us go wha??? The firm remains unamed . They have a potential that they are not realising in their regular line . Now off the wall new stuff??? Do you now see what I mean ?? Thanks for all ya,ll,s big shoulders ----tankerbuilder
