Airfix Royal Soveriegn Question
Posted by warshipguy on Thursday, September 3, 2009 7:13 PM

I recently picked up an Airfix Royal Soverign kit and was struck by the completely bare hull sides.  There was no plank detail whatsoever!  Does anyone know if this is the norm for the kit?  Or, did I get a defectively molded kit?

Believe it or not, that's the kit; it's one of Airfix's older dies, back to when they treated some of their sailing ships as if they were solid hulled wooden models.

I suppose that it would be easy enough to plank her up using styrene strips.  She looks amazingly bare without that detail. Planking would also add much needed depth to the gunports, which have been molded very shallow.
