Heller resurrected?
Posted by warshipguy on Sunday, September 6, 2009 12:25 PM

I visited several LHS's today and found several Heller ship kits in all of them, including quite a few of the old 1/400 WWII German ships, the Richelieu, and the 1/100 scale Soleil Royal and HMS Victory. The WWII-era ships were in their old packaging but the sailing ships had new box art; all were in shrink wrap.

Does anyone know whether or not Heller has resumed business? If so, what are the implications for those 1/100 projects jtilley mentioned some time ago, such as Sovereign of the Seas (Royal Sovereign), Prince, and Mary Rose?

Earlier this year I started seeing Heller aircraft kits in stock at many of the online model shops again, so I'm guessing they have worked out their financial problems and are producing kits again.

I checked out that website, but there was nothing that really addressed my question.  The most recent information is that the workers at heller are on strike, which doesn't address the sudden proliferation of Heller kits in several local hobby shops in my area.  The proprietors of those shops are also not sure whether or not Heller is back in business as a model kit manufacturer.  Anyway, here is to hoping that Heller is back and that they will pursue a 1/100 Royal Sovereign!  Make a Toast [#toast]

Kind of reminds me of that line from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, "I'm not dead yet ..."
