After a year of on and off effort (amazing how much a move can eat into your modeling time), I finally finished my 1/700-scale dockyard diorama of the USS Lenawee, APA-195, depicting the brand-new ship loading landing craft and other equipment and supplies in San Francisco prior to her first wartime deployment, the invasion of Iwo Jima in February 1945. The ship, dock section, buildings, 110-foot sub chaser, fishing trawler and extra LCVPs are all from Loose Cannon Productions. Vehicles and LVTs are Skywave. All of the railroad rolling stock is scratchbuilt, as is all of the dockyard and shipboard clutter. The trawler was added to inject a little color into the scene.
Many thanks to all of you here who let me pick your brains over niggly little details, from paravane wires on the bows to how many tons the center boom on the aft kingpost could lift and the lifting points on LCVPs. A few overall shots:
