Has anyone built 1/72 Trumpeter LCAC?

Gents,

I got this kit from Squadron the other day (the Japanese version on sale for $44.99!!!), and getting ready to start it. I looked at the meager things I could find online and still have a very important question unanswered:

How do you paint the very flexible vinyl skirting without the paint chipping off if the vinyl flexes???

I assume it needs to be painted since there are lots of decals to go on it. If anyone has painted this successfully I'd appreciate any tips.

Thanks in advance,

Michael Smith

Hi Mike - Trumpeters LCAC is a great kit - good fit, great detail, and an interesting subject. I was a little leery of how to deal with the bladder, but it turned out to be no trouble at all. I used Instant Jet AC to attach it to the hull? of the craft and just applied the decals directly on the bladder without any gloss coat. I did give it a coat of Testors Dullcoat to seal them on and they look great.

Here's some pics of mine:

Thanks Mark!

Looking at the excellent quality of the bladder, I was feeling like I could do it the way you did. Thanks for the info.

Hey what color did you use on the inside of those stacks amidships? From the photos I've seen they either look bronze or maybe a yellow chromate primer...any ideas?

Your model looks great, hope mine comes out half as good.

Michael
