Is this a new kit?  Had my eye on one last week at Hobby Lobby, but unfortunately the one they had was gone by the time I got back with a coupon.  They say next Tues they'll have another in for me.

Excellent work on this. It turned out very cool.

I have one of these kits in my stash, awaiting another build finish and a few parts. I'll be ordering replacement Helos, gun barrels, antennas, and the PE from White Ensign.

I don't think this is a new kit, but it's very old either. I think it came out, maybe, a little over a year ago. Of course...I could be mistaken, since I've only just seen it starting to get around my hobby shops, and they are usually behind by a good bit.

No, its a new tool.  It was released within the last 6 months or so.   I picked one up new at the Squadron Open House back around Memorial Day.

Add to your list of replacement items the decals from Iron Shipwright.   They used to be included in ISW's short-hull Perry resin kit.   With the release of the injected kit ISW has stopped producing their resin version.   The ISW decals have better landing / VERTREP deck lines,  missile & gun warning lines, and names & numbers for the short-hull Perrys.   The kit decals are for the Perry (FFG-7) only.  ISW also makes some high & low viz helo decals which will go on the WEM Seasprite

Thanks for the correction, Ed. ;)

I did order the ISW decals. I haven't gotten around to comparing them, but I will keep that in mind and use the ISW ones. :D Honestly, I still have yet to order the parts, and I won't be starting until I get them. I have a few other models to work on until I do, so...I'm good. LOL

Thanks again for the correcction and the info.

What paint and colors did you use to paint it? I'm just getting back into models and got this model today. I'd like to use Model Master or Tamyia paints. Thanks.

All the modelers who work for me don't use model paints like Tamiya or Model Master because they're expensive. So they use industrial paints and mix major colors (red green blue black white) into desired colors like light grey in this case. When you buy the kit be sure to buy PE upgrade set for it too. In my case I use PE upgrade set from MK1 (Korea). These two pics show the PE parts before painting:

Happy modeling!

This is meant constructively:

The build itself looks very nice - clean, no seams, and so forth.

The painting and weathering poses a real problem - there is no contemporary US Naval ship which would ever appear this dirty.  In fact, and Captain whose ship was in such a condition would be court-martialed.  Contemporary US Naval ships are kept spic and span.  I realize the weathering is to highlight detail but it is over the top for the subject.  Needs to be toned down on future builds.

You must never have been to a shipyard.

I have been to a ship yard many times - from Norfolk to San Diego.  I have pictures of ships in drydock and at sea - including a series of the USS Princeton upon its return from a 13 month cruise in the Gulf in 2003.  My son is a Lt Cdr - career Annapolis - and I have been around ships a good part of my adult life in one capacty or another.  And so I will repeat - no contemporary US Naval warship would ever be allowed to be this dirty - especially on its topside superstructure.  Show me some pics if you so strongly disagree.

I work, and have worked for 29 years, at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Prior to that, I served in the US Navy for six years. I would bet that I have seen a few more ships and shipyards than you have. You should know, seeing as your son is a junior officer, that the taking of photographs in a naval shipyard will get you promptly arrested and charged with espionage unless you have a special permit and special permission.

When a ship enters the Yard, cleanliness is soon lost in the grime, grit, dust and smoke of the business at hand. The ship's force and shipyard work force do their best to keep the ships free of debris. But, since the ship is going to be repainted before it leaves anyway, the condition of the hull and superstructure are of minor importance.

edit: Since San Diego was mentioned as a place where a shipyard was, I am taking this as a mistaken identification between a shipyard and a naval station as there are no naval shipyards in San Diego. If you are referring to a naval base, then i can agree with you.

hey great job, I pickup the replacement barrels for the 76mm gun along with the photoetch from yankee models. ? for you all I know this a flight one or short hull version of the perry but they include the deck for the long hull or flight III I think it would be easy just to graft it on but may be wrong. One last ? on the large tower which is the best way to fold the photoetch, I made a photocopy to practice and just want get it right. (left to right or right to left).

Whoa and hold on - my son never took any photos.  I took them when I would visit Norfold prior to 9/11 when they would have open houses.  The taking of photos was permitted and encouraged (except for the sub drydocks) - including the shipyard area.  No espionage.

And yes, you are right, my reference is a naval base.  Thank you for the correction in terms.

As far as my son, he is in E2 Hawkeyes.
