Revel (Germany) U-Boat
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, December 19, 2003 3:45 PM
Received mine yesterday, well worth the wait and at £40.00 is reasonable value for money.
All panel lines are raised and farly heavy, easy enough rubbed down.
I am now working on how to motorise it + R/C.
If anyone has any ideas and would care to share them !!!!!!

I think those heavy lines are supposed to be weld lines.

Without having the actual kit, remember that those weld seams were usually ground down to reduce drag on the boat...

There's a bunch of really good photos of the hull of U-995 at Laboe (Type VIIC) on the web and on Uboat.net, I'd be checking those before making any decisions.

I remeber reading a German modeler saying that he thought that the weld lines were just a hair over sized but not enough to take away fro the kits total apperance.

Let us know Jeff! Big Smile [:D]

Thank you for all replies to date.
Construction of the boat is now underway and many photographs have been taken.
If any reader would would care to see them I shall gladly e-mail them. Just to whet your appetite if you live in the USA and shall have to wait another few months for your U-Boat.
No filler has been required to date and general fit of all parts looks very good.
Out of the options available I have decided upon U552 Early version.
By the way if the raised panel lines I mentioned in my original submission were scaled up they would be well over 1" high. Some welders!!!!

Thanks for the update!

I hope that we do not need to wait that long.

another few months? LOL God I hope not as the place where I bought mine have them set to ship after Christmas....though I've heard of a few places and distributors that hopped on the wagon late having problems.......
