I want one of these so bad I cant stand it Gonna wait a bit and see some more built before I decide but I'm leaning toward the Trumpeter kit.

The ROG 1/720 kit is supposed to be one of the nicest and most accurate...I have one.

I broke down and bought this today... I had some spare cash and the 20% off was just too tempting. In the box, it looks very nice! I think it will suit my needs well enough.

There's a good critique of both the Trumpeter & Academy kits here too.

Inded it is!Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] It appears BOTH Aademy and Trumpeter goofed on the mast, but one at a lower price.... Laugh [(-D] and based on the posts I am one of those folks who would be content with the plastic railings and not worry about the mast. But I do appreciate the work and input of those who are more critical of the ships they build.

There's another better discussion here -

BTW there's a better live link to the discussion in this thread -

/forums/1156883/ShowPost.aspx

I'm waiting until I've seen a side-by-side review of both kits before I buy.

Thanks for the links Warshipbuilder. The in box review does not say anything bad, and the discussion does not have anyone building it at all. Just one guy who saw the unbuilt kit at the Nationals. To me, it sounds like a reasonable kit for a decent price. Thats all I am looking for. I was hoping some folks here had some firsthand experreince. It sure beats the Lindberg I53 it sounds like...Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I would suggest you check out the kit review dated 09-09-2009 over at the modelwarships main site.

There's also some discussion going on here -

Hi Guys

I have just completed the Academy Graf Spee and found it goes together quite well. My major critisism is with the railings which are out of scale and would be better substituted with PE which I beleive the Trumpeter has. When finnished the model looks OK but I would not use their railings.

I haven't seen the kit, but I heard that it is toy-like and that you would be better off waiting for the Trumpeter kit.

A LHS has the new 1/350 Academy Graf Spee listed for just under $40. Is the kit worth picking up at that price?
