RODC - nice job on an old classic. I have mine 50% finished, first kit I started when I came back to the hobby, so had to , ahem, fix a few errors. Over at ModelShipWrights there was a whole GB on Small craft with tons of info on PT boats, including plans on painting the antifouling red - the contours given in the Revell instructions are not correct. This kit is so cheap, you can buy a couple and play with various techniques and configurations. Thanks for sharing, cheers

I did look at these pics after they were posted in my original thread but after Durr's post, I thought I should look again. It would indeed seem that the stripe is not man-made and looks to be dirt and grime. It has fuzzy margins and seems a little too wide.

Nonetheless, if I do add a boot stripe, I hope the Gods of Styrene do not strike me down.....

The photos on Tracy's site do appear to show marine fouling growth/scum along the waterline. The dirt line appears to follow the float-line not what would be a boot-top cheat line.

The best instance of moldeing algae & scum i've seen was on one of the submarine models at the recent IPMS Nats. A light band of salt-deposit white overlaying a hint of a transparent green band at the waterline. Subtle but effective. Less was obviously more.

I have the originals and will look at them to be sure, but I'm pretty sure that it shows a lot of grime and the reason for the black stripe in the first place. Regardless, these photos were shot on the east coast just as PT-109 started her journey to the Pacific .. before she was being taken care of by a crew in combat conditions.

Durr......I was going to apply the boot stripe but according to Garth (PTConsultingNHR), he stated he has never seen pictures of boats in country with a boot stripe so I never bothered to add one. That being said, I think it would certainly set off the paint job and I may still do it.......I have this wonderful 1/16" and 1/8" black tape that could be easily applied......maybe someday.

Hull bottom (anti-fouling) was sprayed with Tamiya rattle can. Hull sides with Model Master rattle can. Lightened olive drab on deck and topsides with airbrush. Other smaller items such as crew, guns, deck features was with a brush. Two coats of Future (pre- and post- decalling) from airbrush.

First off, I would like to thank Tracy, Drew, thunder1, sgtmac, John@WEM, Garth (PT ConsultingNHR) and Model Maniac for their instructive comments to my original post (/forums/1187777/ShowPost.aspx)

My PT is now completed and I have to say I am rather pleased with the results. Nothing fancy - basically OOTB and hull finished with ModelMaster Olive Drab...........I know, I know........it should be tropical green.....my bad

! Deck and topsides also olive drab but lightened with several drops of gloss white. Anti-fouling on hull was Tamiya's Hull Red. The obligatory coat of Future was sprayed on for the decals and then sprayed a second time to seal them. I may actually not bother with dullcote since I sort of like the glossy finish (also makes it easier
for dusting!).

Flag decals were applied to cigarette pack foil and then "snuggled" down with some PollySol decal solution, carefully trimmed after dried and the back coated with white glue and
then wrapped around the flag pole.....came out OK. Rope railings on bow is made from doubled sewing cotton rubbed with white glue which, when dry was rubbed with candle wax (to keep thread from going fuzzy).

I have to say, after my initial color shock once I opened the box, I actually enjoyed the kit. I may buy another and go hog wild with a "what-if" scheme. Pics below and thanks for looking!
