Decals on vac-form sails.
Posted by chris hall on Thursday, October 1, 2009 1:33 AM

In my stash I have a RoG/ Revell Europe 1/18 Laser-class sailing dinghy. The biggest feature on this boat is its large, vac-formed sail, which has large, colourful markings, provided in the form of decals.

What do people consider to be the best approach to applying decal markings to vac sails? The standard paint-Future-decal-future-varnish method, or is there something more appropriate? My concern is that the sail might be excesively thickened by a total of between ten and sixteen coats of paint, Future and varnish. The sail will need painting because as it is, it looks like white plastic, not white rip-stop nylon.

Cheers,

Chris.
