I would not recommend that approach. I've found that over the years projects I did with letraline or pantone tape or the like come apart after five years or so. Either changes in temperature or sunlight is probably the cause, but the stuff, while it goes down neatly, doesn't stick forever.

What you might try doing is masking the area, painting it with thick paint, and then final color coat over all. I do know from experience that final paint coats do not hide imperfections (intended in this case) very well!

You're right about the drawing resource. I've got a couple sheets each of the T2 and the Victory ships.

Large C3 freighter model - simulating weld lines
Posted by aaronalpert on Monday, October 5, 2009 10:13 AM

I am building a large (1:80) C3 freighter model from scratch using the Revell Hawaiian Pilot 1:380 kit as a guide along with plans obtained from the Smithsonian (PS a great source of merchant ship plans designed by Mar Ad)

I've seen in modelers supply catalogs striping tape as thin as 1/32" and even 1/64". Has anyone used this tape to simulate weld lines on their models, ships or otherwise?. With the large scale I'm building to, I'd like to simulate hull and deck plating  (I need to obtain an appropriate shell expansion plan). Maybe laying down the tape before final priming and painting would work??

Thanks for any help or advice
