Wow! Talk about reviving a long dead thread, that was originally discussed six years ago!

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

hi , after you let it cure , by the way i wait three full days .you should be able to overspray or brush with acrylic( water based ) semi gloss or flat  coat . this stuff is excellent for those pesky things called decals . now that i think of it ,the last three a/c i did  had supposedly super decals and they were nothing but difficult to deal with .     tankerbuilder

Matt, it gives the surface a high gloss and shine. and seals the paint. Important!! It must cure for 2 days after application.

Dave (and everyone else),

thanks for the help up to now. I will try and get some 'Klear' !

what does this actually do to the appearance of the finished painted surface ? does it give a gloss / shine ? or is it basically unseen and makes no difference to the paints appearance ?

thanks again. Matt

Matt, I found it for you. In the UK it goes under the name Klear.

Hi Matt,
I can't remember what it goes by in the UK. I don't know what all is out there. This is produced by Johnson & Johnson, at least here in the States. The other important feature of this product is that it will not yellow... not ever.

Hopefully somebody in the UK will check this post and respond.
Good luck

Hi Matt, Future (or whatever they call it in the UK) can be airbrushed strait from the bottle or even brushed on (it has good self-leveling properties). You put it on as a sealer to protect the paint and to smooth out the surface for decals, this lessons the "silvering" of decals. Then use a decal set (such as micro sol) to get the decal to "snuggle down" on the model. Then use more Future to seal it.

Then if you need a flat finish you can put a flat coat over it. It also has some adhesive properties. Some people use it to adhere canopies etc.

I see so its a widely used technique. What will it do ? Seal the decal down to prevent peeling ?

I am in the UK. I am sure i could find some acrylic floor wax somewhere,

any more infos great. Thanks. Matt

Hi Matthew105 and welcome to the forum. Future is nothing more than an acrylic floor wax. If you do a search in this forum you will probably find more information about Future than anything else. It's a great product and there are some very good posts in here on the subject.

I don't know where you live, but if you're in the states you can find it at almost any grocery store. Outside the US it is marketed under different names. I don't recall them all at the moment, but you will find this in the search as well.

Good luck!

Hello.

In this months FS, the workbench review on K-141 Kursk it says the decals were poor and they were 'put down' with a coat of 'Future'. As i have a Zvezda Kursk on order i just wanted to know before i started what 'Future' is ? Is it a type of clearcoat help keep the decals on ? on Revell kits in the past i have had decals peel off and its disapointing to see happen to a nicely finished model. Any helps great !

Is this Future good and is it easy to get hold of ?

thanks for help in advance.
