Looking for help on selling models.
Posted by Toze on Thursday, October 8, 2009 12:58 AM
Greetings all.

I hope I'm not intruding in your forum but I'm looking for any help I might get on finding buyers for a series of highly detailed model ships. I'm inquiring on behalf of a friend who got these ships as payment for a debt and is trying to sell them off along with the accompanying documentation and schematics.

There are at least three that are in good condition, with only dust to be cleaned off, and a series of others which have some mild damage (pieces that have come unglued). There are two that are cross sections and the others are all full scale models.

Most of these are models of Portuguese sailing ships, two or three are models of the ships Columbus sailed to the Americas, and there are a couple of Chinese style sailing ships.

I can post some photos on request.

Again, I hope I'm not disrupting your forum, but any help would be appreciated.

Is there anyone here who could at least help me in getting an appraisal for the models?

What constitutes a proper model is rather subjective. You would be best served by perusing the wood ship model sites and the general resale or auction sites of completed models.  You can view the ongoing and completed models and ascertain where your models would apply.

Could you help me with providing links to any of these sites. I know that there are models just like these at the local maritime museum, made by the same builder.

I would say that on matters of detail, construction quality and materials it's on par with this sort of thing:
