Substitute for Humbrol Clearfix
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, December 23, 2003 7:55 AM
Hey..
Is there a substitute for Humbrol Clearfix? No one markets it in the Savannah area.
I have Airfix's HMS Victory kit. When assembling the shrouds and ratlines on the jig provided in the kit, the instructions call for coating them with Clearfix.
Would any sort of clear enamel or acrylic work?
Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks

Jon

I seem to have in mind that Clearfix is used to replicate small windows... If so, a good substitute is Ross' Washable School Glue Gel... It'sw a blue-tinted liquid that dries extremely thin and transparent... Available from Walmart..!

Microscale used to have a similar product too, a kind of PVA glue that dried clear, but never really liked it much.

If you are playing with threads then a tiny drop of white carpenter's glue on each knot will do just fine ...
