1/72 revell pt boat 109 replacement cleats: sos new modeler

I am currently working on the classic revell pt 109 kit with the excellent article that was printed in 1995. Ok so here is the ? I am teaching a brand new modeler to build ships, and using that article and kit. When we attempted to make the kits cleats they just won't come out, I know suppliers have replacement parts but what style and size I was thinking of bluejackets. Any thoughts we are not going for accurancy but for look since this is his first project. So as right we have removed all of them need help thanks?
