GATO class submarine antifouling colours

During WWII, antifouling paint on US submarines was black.

US Submarines had regular stateside overhauls and dedicated tenders. It is unlikely they would be so desperate for anti-fouling as to use off-the-shelf varieties, but if you absolutely have to do a red hull look into the very early service Gatos as there were some launched with the red anti-fouling.

Thank you Tom and Tracy for the replies to my question. Seems like i will give in and use the black/ anthracite antifouling colors.

Doing some research for building a GATO sub i stumbled across some pictures of models with the red paint and i started wondering about the likelyhood of this having happened in real life since my documentation stated otherwise like you both just did. One has to admit it is better to look at than the dark measure 9 schemes even if it is most unlikely or inaccurate
