My wife has been pestering me for the last couple of years to build a ship model for her fathers b'day, christmas etc but she never wants to part with the cash. Well this year rocks round I find out hes got a party in a few days and my wife doesn't have a gift organised, so I volunteer the 1/600 Airfix Bismarck santa recentley gave me, she says fine.
After a very busy 2 and a half days, here's the finished product.
There were three issues with the build, the first was getting the hull together and then smoothing took alot of sanding (this took around 5 hours) . Second issue, of the main cannon barrels was gone, took nearly two hours to carve another from sprue.
Third problem was no arado seaplane, well after finding the missing barrel I was almost ready to toss it in at this stage. After doing a bit of thinking and sleeping on it a daultless from a revell 1/542 midcarrier fit the bill almost perfect.
The fact that the sprues were cast off centre for some parts didnt make it easy, eg if a 3-4mm part id .5-1 mm off between one side and the other takes a little surgery to make look round again as opposed to half bits just roughly chucked together.
Either way while I would not say I really enjoyed the build, I will say I am satisfied with the build, the way it turned out given the difficulties and time
