I would suggest that once you get the Tamiya/ Humbrol/ WEM (my pick) paint colors picked, order one each and work on sprayouts on plastic card until the shades are the way you want. Then color match to something available in quantity for a reasonable price. It's hard to estimate how much paint you'd need, but consider this. My 1/350 San Francisco needed one half of a spray can of Tamiya primer, three tins of WEM to cover the topsides and a quarter bottle of Tamiya for the hull red. That represented an investment of maybe $ 15. Following the rule that 3D objects scale in cubes, your model is three times as long and therefore will have twenty seven times the surface area.

White Ensign Models (Google for them) also stock all of the paints you need. Just ask them which ones.

Bismarck Colour Problem
Posted by holdenmaniac on Friday, February 5, 2010 4:10 AM

Hi all,

I am building a massive version of the Bismarck (1300mm long) It is a mail list type model where i build it from weekly magazine issues. It has the most fantastic detail with the help of excellent moulded plastic and PE parts. Alas with the magazine coming from the UK i am having lots of problems finding the colour codes equivalent to theirs.

I am hoping one of you experts out there could give me the Humbrol, or Tamiya etc codes for the Bismarcks colour scheme. At this stage of the build I am only looking at giving her the grey finish from when she was launched, maybe give her the camo look later on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Jason

If it jams, force it. If it breaks,

it needed replacing anyway.
